Dr. Joseph Mascaro D.C.

Retired

Dr. Joseph Mascaro founded Advanced Back and Neck Care Center in 1986 with a deep belief that great healthcare is grounded in trust and human connection. From his earliest days in practice, he was known for his ability to truly listen to his patients and to make them feel understood, comfortable, and well cared for.

His commitment to both clinical excellence and respectful communication became the foundation of the practice’s reputation in the community.

Now retired from clinical practice, Dr. Mascaro remains an important part of the Advanced Back and Neck Care Center team, continuing to support the practice and its core values: We Care. We Are Professional. We Work as a Team.

Today, Dr. Dan Mascaro leads the clinic with pride, continuing Dr. Mascaro’s vision and its long-standing commitment to compassionate, effective, and patient-focused care.

Dr. Daniel Mascaro D.C.

Dr. Dan Mascaro is the Clinic Director at Advanced Back and Neck Care Center, where he has been practicing since 2020. Inspired by his father, Dr. Joe Mascaro, Dr. Dan grew up witnessing how helping others achieve better health can bring true meaning and purpose to life.

He is on a mission to improve the quality of his patients’ lives by guiding them back to health through natural, non-invasive healthcare approaches.

Dr. Dan earned his undergraduate degree in Health and Science Studies from Quinnipiac University and his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life University in Georgia. Following graduation, he practiced in New Jersey at an office that specializes in cervical spine conditions and headache care. He later practiced in East Haven, Connecticut, where he focused on caring for families, athletes, and patients recovering from auto-related injuries.

Dr. Dan currently specializes in the treatment of chronic and acute back and neck pain, spinal disc injuries, pinched nerves, auto-injury care, peripheral neuropathy, knee pain, weight loss, and gut health conditions. Many patients appreciate that he offers a variety of gentle treatment approaches, including the use of a handheld tool to improve spinal movement.

He is board certified and nationally certified in Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy and was recognized in 2020 as one of the Best Spinal Decompression Doctors in America. He is also certified in radial pressure wave therapy which helps relieve stubborn muscle knots, plantar fasciitis and tendonitis pain.

In addition to patient care, Dr. Dan regularly lectures on a variety of health-related topics, including stress, healing, spinal health, knee pain, and gut health. He currently serves as the District Director of the Connecticut Chiropractic Physicians Association and is an active member of the Connecticut Chiropractic Council.

Chiropractor

Dr. Michael Thomas D.C., C.C.S.P.

Dr. Thomas has been in practice at Advanced Back and Neck Care Center, LLC for over 30 years. He received undergraduate degrees in both Biology and Human Anatomy from Southern Connecticut State University prior to earning his Doctorate of Chiropractic in 1993 from the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago.

Upon graduation, he returned to his home state of Connecticut where he began to practice chiropractic at Advanced Back and Neck Care Center.

Dr. Thomas has earned his certification as a Chiropractic Sports Physician through post-graduate work at New York College of Chiropractic in 1995. He has worked for 3 separate professional sports teams. He has treated athletes in the NBA, WNBA, PGA, MLB, WWE and Olympians. While a great deal of his career has been spent treating people with injuries, he enjoys helping people of all walks of life achieve peak performance and with the prevention of injury.

Dr. Thomas lectures on topics such as chiropractic, health, stress, fitness, ergonomics, nutrition, and proper lifting.

Dr. Warren Geruso D.C.

Dr. Geruso is a resident of Rhode Island where he attended the University of Rhode Island for his undergraduate work. He then earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic through Life College in Marietta, Georgia. He has been practicing at the Advanced Back and Neck Care Center since January 1998.

Dr. Matthew McNicholas D.C.

Dr. McNicholas was pursuing a degree in accounting when he received his first chiropractic adjustment from his sister, Meghan, which shifted his entire paradigm on healthcare from that point forward. He continued to get his accounting degree from the University of Connecticut, but also decided to pursue a goal of attending chiropractic school after graduation.

He achieved this goal when he graduated from the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic and began working with his sister in his childhood hometown of Southington, Connecticut. While working there he received specialized training in upper cervical specific technique and had the pleasure of helping a lot of families achieve optimal health including many pregnant mothers and newborns. He has spent the last three years working in a chiropractic office in downtown Hartford, Connecticut, where he served a wide variety of patients from businesspeople to athletes to local families.

His life’s journey has brought him down to Southeastern Connecticut, and he’s excited to serve the population in this area. He’s an active member of the Connecticut Chiropractic Council. Outside of the office he enjoys reading, all things sport related, and spending time with family.

Acupuncturist

Dr. Huan Zhang PH.D., L.AC.

Dr. Huan Zhang studied East Asian Medicine at the University of Bridgeport Acupuncture Institute, and graduated in 2016 with a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture. Before studying East Asian Medicine, he obtained his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology in 1995 and did research in Japan and America for over 25 years.

He is fluent in English, Chinese and Japanese, is able to read and understand the original literatures of East Asian Medicine written in Chinese and Japanese, and have in-depth discussions with acupuncturists in United States, China and Japan.

Dr. Zhang treats patients with health issues ranging from (but not limited to) Back and Neck pain, Arthritis, Sciatica, Headaches, Digestion issues, Strokes, Constipation, Insomnia, Anxiety, Stress, Fertility, Menopause, and Weight Loss.

Dr. Zhang is currently accepting new patients and offers a Complimentary Consultation to discuss the patients concerns or apprehension of treatment.
